Installing and Replacing Drainfields

When working on drainfields we try as much as possible to use limited access machinery which limits the negative effects on the home-owners lawn and landscaping.

Drainfields must be approved by the local health department before being installed, the type of system depends on the land area and type of soil where the drainfield will go. Here are a few of the services we offer for Drainfields:

  • Complete Drainfield Installation
  • Drainfield Replacement
  • Mound Systems

Different types of drainfields for various conditions

This is the simplest system, but it requires permeable soil without signs of high water table. Size of the drainfield depends on soil quality and estimated daily water usage per gallon.

This is a full cut down drainfiled when sand is relatively close to the surface. It removes all of the unsuitable soil and replaces it with washed sand.

This drainfield cannot be installed in clay unless sand is found underneath. This type of system works well in situation where there is a laer of clay over sand. Though not the least expensive, it's a good alternative to the raised mound system that leaves a large mound in the yard.

Raised Mound Drainfields are often used when there are no other options. They often require a pump to lift the effluent to a higher elevation. These are becoming more and more common and there are many variations. Some counties may refer to this as a sand filter, in some casesthey can be hid in a hill and graded to look more natural.

Project Process

Septic Systems are a part of public responsibility so there is a process to planning, approvals, execution and final inspections.

Preparing for the project

The first thing to do is to pump out all of the septic tank(s) and replace all the baffles and install an effluent filter, then we mark out the location of the drainfield visually to make sure the plans from the health department will actually work.

Installing the field

We dig out the top-soil and set it aside to be used again later, then we dig out the field per the specific design necessary, lay in the washed sand, stone and then the pipes and recover with the topsoil.

Approval

Septic systems and drainfields are a publish health issue and must be done in accordance to the Health Department of the local area. The health Department has a hand in the planning and final approval that everything is working in a satisfactory manner
