Why you need to have your septic tank pumped out

After a year or two, the solids accumulate in the septic tank and need to be pumped out and brought to a proccessing facility (we proccess everything in Muskegon). If these solids aren't removed they are push out to the drainfield, and clog in the soil creating a thick mat. This stops drainfield operations. The sewage now has only two places to go and it is back up into the house or flow across the ground surface over the drainfield. If this happens, you may need to replace your septic system.

Tips for a healthy septic system

Do not put too much water into the septic system typical water use is about 50 gallons per day per person per family.

Do not add materials other than domestic wastewater.

Do not use your garbage disposal.

Do not pour grease or cooking oils down the sink drain.

Have a riser installed over the septic tank to simplify access.

Have your septic tank pumped every two-three years.

Plant grass over the drainfield.

Keep heavy objects off the system.
